As part of a recent blog post titled My Grandmother, I am extensively working with international volunteer organizations to find a good and cohesive fit between myself and the organization (read the entire My Grandmother post to understand further).
After an exhaustive and extensive few days of research and thought, I would strongly suggest individuals looking to volunteer abroad investigate International Volunteer HQ.
International Volunteer HQ
The organization has placed 20,000+ individuals. They have experience. The organization has third party (i.e., previous volunteers) credibility. They are relatively cheap compared to many other volunteer organizations.
There are many, many, many volunteer organizations. Many, if not all, are credible and provide ethical and positive opportunities and experiences (both for the volunteer and the organization the volunteers are helping). Before jumping in with two feet, please ensure you do research.
Speak with friends who have done volunteer placements and see their experience and what to look for and the questions you should ask before registering.
I welcome and strive to get your feedback and own thoughts. Feel free to comment below or connect with me via social media.
